Rueckkehrerverein now Ghanaian-German Alumni Network (GGAN) |

The name of the Rueckkehrerverein has been changed to Ghanaian-German Alumni Network (GGAN). The change of name was necessitated by the following reasons:
-
The name ‘Rueckkehrer’ translated to English as ‘Returnee’ was found to have a negative connotation as 'Returnee' has been associated with repatriates.
-
The German name Rueckkehrerverein was found to be difficult for Ghanaians who do not speak German to pronounce, understand and know what the association stands for.
-
Rueckkehrerverein restricts membership to returned professionals trained in Germany. The change in name would open membership to German trained Ghanaians both in Ghana and the Diaspora to tap their potentials for the development of Ghana.
A resolution for the change of name was passed at a General Meeting of the Rueckkehrerverein held on 31.10.2008 at the Goethe-Institut, Accra and all members were informed accordingly. The necessary documentations have now been duly completed.
The association shall henceforth be known and called Ghanaian-German Alumni Network (GGAN).
The necessary changes would be made in our website soon to reflect the change in name. We would like all German trained Ghanaians to join us to contribute our quota to the development of mother Ghana. A date for launching the new name would be soon announced.
